Every year-end compilation list that I have read so far has been utter dogshit. Rolling Stone is nothing more than a corporate advertising magazine posing as a relevant music publication; Spin is about 2 ladder steps down in terms of predictability; Pitchfork rates mainstream rap albums alongside…
I want to take a time out to focus on one of my favorite remixers out there: DCLXVI. I am enamored with his ability to take a track and turn it in into atmospheric art: full of anticipation, phantasm, and allure. Most of his works sound fuzzy, they remind me of listening to the radio as a child - straining to make out the sounds through all the static. There is something inviting about his remixes, you long to explore the inner workings of the song, like you would a forest. Each track is engrossing, allowing you to completely distance yourself from the physical world. In a word: spellbinding.
Grab his latest, “Remixes 2”, and more at bandcamp.

The Saturday Song Of The Day is always a hard one to choose. I have to really consider what I’m going to focus on since, chances are, I do not post much music that day. Upon finding out that DCLXVI remixed a Young Henry song, I was beside myself. The two gentlemen are some of the nicest people on the planet and good artists, to boot. I sleepily played it, slumber not having fully left my body, and I felt all at once peaceful and warm. Totally chill and ambrosial, “Riding Alone (DCLXVI remix)” is Saturday’s Song Of The Day.
